Help Drafted in this Weekend!

Another Bad Weekend

Ok promise I won’t talk about shopping at the supermarket in this blog lol – only because we didn’t go!  However…

We visited Kirst’s Mum, Dad & Sister who hadn’t seen Kirst from before she went to Budapest to have her teeth done and they were impressed with the result.  It was nice to catch up with them and they are getting more used to seeing and supporting Kirst.

I felt I needed a bit of a mood lift so suggested we go to a new outlet shop that has opened near us.  Now those who know Kirst know if you get her in a clothes or shoe shop you’ll have a lot of effort to get her out before she buys everything.   This wasn’t the case this time.  We had only been in the shop a few minutes at most when Kirst said she had to get out of the shop and couldn’t be in there as she looked disgusting and off she went back to the car.

Again the feeling of the beard shadow coming through was the reason and she just felt she looked like a man and felt people were looking at her and she couldn’t cope.  We had to get some food so I suggested we went to M&S as its a small shop but when we got there Kirst couldn’t go in and stayed in the car whilst I got some bits and pieces.

No one unless another transexual can fully understand the impact of what I saw as a very faint beard shadow on the person.  It totally makes them feel awful, depressed and that they can’t blend in with ‘normal’ people as they feel they don’t look like a woman.  Believe me the impact is real!  I felt Kirst was feeling so low that I drafted in some support.

One of our friends who is just a little further on than Kirst and has gone through the first month of having the implant and is now taking estrogen came over on Sunday.  She had said to Kirst to expect these feelings and effects but you always hope they won’t happen to you but they have.  It was good to have her here and explain that after a few weeks she will start to feel up again when she starts taking the estrogen – just needs to get through the next few weeks.

I asked what her partner feels and how she handles it – she went off abroad with her friends and left her to it lol.  Hmm maybe I ought to do the same lol !

Anyway its good to know that all  should be ok in a few weeks – I’ll just be buying extra vodka to help me through it lol!

Scotland: Trans woman threatened with ban from shopping centre for using ladies’ toilets

Hannah Leith said she was told she would be banned from the Paisley Centre if she attempted to use the ladies' toilets
Hannah Leith said she was told she would be banned from the Paisley Centre if she attempted to use the ladies’ toilets

A transgender woman has claimed she was threatened with being banned from a shopping centre, after someone complained about her using the ladies’ toilets.

Hannah Leith said she was stopped by a security guard when she tried to go into the toilets at the Paisley Centre, Scotland.

She said he called her “mate”, and told her a complaint had been made, and that she would be banned from the centre unless she used the male or disabled toilets in future, reports the Paisley Daily Express.

She said: “At about noon, while waiting to pick up a prescription, I spent 10 minutes window shopping and chatting with staff I know from other shops.

“I visited the ladies as I left and I was approached by a security guard and informed a complaint had been made that I was using the ladies’ toilets.

“He proceeded to inform me that I was only to use either the men’s or disabled toilets unless I was post-operative.

“I informed him that I had the legal right to use appropriate toilets, and he responded by saying if I used them, I would be banned from the centre.”

She went on to say: “It was not made clear whether a staff member or a member of the public had made this complaint… I have lived full-time as a woman since last August and this disgusts me.”

Hannah said she had used the toilets countless times before, and works in Marks and Spencer on nearby Paisley High Street.

After printing out her legal rights from the library, Ms Leith said she went back to speak to the manager of the centre, but that nobody was available.

She then attempted to enter the ladies’ toilets but was stopped again by another guard, and attempted to reason with the first security guard she spoke to.

“This was useless as he said words to the effect that I was causing problems for everyone and that the majority was more important than just me.

“When I said it had never caused a problem before, and no-one has either noticed or cared I was trans, he replied that they noticed – implying that I do not pass as a woman, which I don’t believe is correct.”

The Equality Act 2010 bars discrimination based on gender reassignment, sex and sexual orientation.

Stonewall and the Scottish Transgender Alliance both emphasised that “refusal to allow use of sanitary facilities appropriate to the gender in which the person is living”, is in breach of the Act.

Transexual Stubble Drives Kirst Mad!

The Stubble is Back!

This last week has not been good for Kirst as her stubble and beard growth seems to be the worse it has ever been.

There seems to be no rhyme or reason why all of a sudden her stubble is coming back quicker and thicker than it was before, even though she is still having the lazer and electrolysis.  Maybe its because she has had to be off her hormones for the last month whilst they took the blood tests to determine what hormones she needs – who knows!  Whatever the reason it has made her very depressed and stressed.

She has tried all the different foundations we have in our collections – and that’s quite a few – with different tints and powders and the red lipstick before and everything else you can think of but the dark shadow still remains even after just shaving.  Kirst has never had this shadow before.

The internet doesn’t really help only suggesting putting red lipstick around the shadow before applying the foundation or applying foundation and a concealer.  The problem with that solution is you look as if you have caked your make-up on and have too many layers and is even more obvious that you are a guy.

We have spoken to a few beauty consultants and none seem to have the ideal answer.  She is going to try a Clinique base that has colour pigments and then apply the Clinique foundation that used to work for her and see how that goes from tomorrow.  If not we probably need to get to a MAC store and see what options they have – although she has tried my MAC foundation and found it too dark.

No one can appreciate how stressed and depressed this makes a transexual feel – you want to look as much like a woman as you can but if you have a dark shadow you just can’t!  I am hoping that now she has had her hormone implant today to block testosterone that this will help and stunt the growth.

I’ve searched around the internet and the best tips or solutions I can find – that we have not tried by the way or recommend are:

dermablend transgender feminization

1. Dermablend Cover Crème

The “mother” of all beard covers and a TG favorite, Dermablend Cover Crème is heavy enough to cover scars, tattoos, bruises, and beard shadows. On the down side, it’s very thick and can look cakey. Dermablend is best for evenings or low light situations when you can get away with heavy makeup.

mac transgender feminization

2. MAC Full Coverage Foundation

MAC Full Coverage Foundation is another TG favorite. It’s a cake foundation that offers great coverage and is used by pros for beauty photography. The MAC foundation is lighter than Dermablend, so it looks more natural.

colortration transgender feminization

3. Colortration

Colortration Super Concealing Liquid Makeup is another great option for covering your beard shadow. In fact, many girls swear by it. Colortration is a highly concentrated liquid concealer, so it goes on smoother and looks more natural than crème covers.

No matter which concealer you use, keep these two things in mind:

  1. Pat (don’t rub!) the concealer on.
  2. Apply powder between concealer layers.

What’s YOUR favorite beard concealer? Let us know by leaving a comment below! We’d love to hear from you.

Time for Me to Move Out – or is it???

A Weekend of Hell

Well guess who made a reappearance today???  Yep that fun loving, happy, cheery Steven!

steven2

So Steven still has to make an appearance every 6 weeks boo!  This is because he has to grow his stubble for 4 days before he can have his lazer so he has a shave on a Friday morning but goes to work as Kirst that day.  Then all weekend he’s Steven as he is on Monday and works from home before his appointment late in the day.

Hell does not explain how bad for me and Kirst these weekends are!  No one apart from the transexual person themself can fully understand and appreciate how this makes them feel to have to be dressed as a guy again even though they are full time as a woman.  But boy do I now understand!

So clearly we don’t do a lot these weekends but we do go and do our weekly supermarket shop of which I’ve already told you about the fun of that in another blog.  Well it was murder – and I mean it was really nearly murder – think it was in aisle no 18 where the beans are lol!  Now there was no excuse of the voice as she was dressed as Steven but me and Kirst have vowed never to go food shopping together ever again!

We had written the list as we said we would last time but in aisle 18 the list got thrown to the floor by Kirst whilst I walked away almost in tears.  The stress that Kirst feels and depression on these days is just incredible and as I suffer from depression as well and have been having a bad spell the last couple of weeks combining the two was not positive.

We also decided to go and look at some new house developments as we are looking to move out from the flat asap.  The first one we looked at within probably 20 seconds of driving around I said it wasn’t for me to which Steven aka Kirst took umbrage to that I could decide within such a short space of time that I didn’t like it!  That’s me I’m very quick at deciding whether I like the feel of somewhere and this was a sprawling estate of houses with no doubt perfect families with their perfect kids and perfect pets and wash the cars on Sunday – not for me!

We are at opposite ends of the spectrum where houses are concerned.  Kirst’s ideal is a new development house – my ideal is a run down house that needs doing up in the middle of nowhere with a paddock to keep donkeys and goats and whatever other animals I can fit in!  However, me being me has conceded and is happy (not ecstatic) to go with Kirst’s choice of a new development, four square walled new house.

So as you can imagine I got a mouthful of verbal abuse at not liking this place and deciding so quick!  I can’t repeat the expletives used lol!  Anyway the next development we went to I had a good feel so hopefully we may progress with that one.

I definitely considered moving out this weekend as it was just too much stress and I know Kirst probably felt the same.  There is no easy answer to this one as every 6 weeks she is going to have to go through this and be Steven for a weekend.  So any girlies want a weekend away every 6 weeks I’m your girl and I’ll be there lol !

Seriously though it was distressing for me to see Kirst go through that and I’m dreading the next weekend when she has to be in guy mode.  Surely there is another answer that the NHS haven’t come up with yet to help permanent hair removal?????

These pics below purely demonstrate Kirst looking moody as she was this weekend and the second one I think displays how if eyes could kill I would have been stabbed to death this weekend lol!  Happy Days…

Kirst starts on Hormones – oh god!

Transexual Hormones for Kirst & their possible effect

Happy Kirst

Great news for Kirst – her bad cholesterol has gone down and her good cholesterol gone up – so that means she can go on hormones.  Not sure whether she will keep having to have the cholesterol checked – hope not as eating salads, wholemeal everything and bland food isn’t great but hey it’s done the job.

So her private doctor analysed the blood tests and she has been prescribed Goserelin and Estradiol.  What’s that I hear you ask????  Ok here’s the medical bit:

Goserelin medication is used to treat:

  • Delaying puberty pending treatment decisions in children with gender incongruency.
  • Suppressing hormone levels in transsexuals, especially trans women.
  • It’s more common use is to treat prostate cancer endometriosis advanced breast cancer in pre-menopausal and pre-menopausal women.

Goserelin is a synthetic hormone. In men, it stops the production of the hormone testosterone, which may stimulate the growth of cancer cells. In women, goserelin decreases the production of the hormone estradiol (which may stimulate the growth of cancer cells) to levels similar to a postmenopausal state. When the medication is stopped, hormone levels return to normal.

As with any medication there are possible side effects and those for goserelin include:

  • bone pain
  • hot flushes
  • headaches
  • stomach upsets
  • depression
  • difficulty urinating
  • weight gain
  • swelling and tenderness of the breasts
  • decreased erections
  • reduced sexual desire
  • memory loss

Great!  So if Kirst isn’t snappy enough right now for not getting the NHS FFS she’s now going to be depressed and stressed out on her hormones!  This is given by an implant.

So estradiol medication is given to treat:

  • give millions of new female cells
  • help with breast development
  • make skin softer
  • encourage fat in the lower part of the body and face
  • changes in body odour and hair texture

Again this has potential impacts:

  • psychological changes
  • emotional changes
  • difficulty breathing, swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat
  • chest pain or heavy feeling, pain spreading to the arm or shoulder, nausea, sweating, general ill feeling;
  • sudden numbness or weakness, especially on one side of the body;
  • sudden severe headache, confusion, problems with vision, speech, or balance;
  • stabbing chest pain, sudden cough, wheezing, rapid breathing, fast heart rate;
  • pain, swelling, warmth, or redness in one or both legs;
  • nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, increased thirst, muscle weakness, confusion, and feeling tired or restless;
  • a lump in your breast;
  • feeling like you might pass out;
  • pain, swelling, or tenderness in your stomach; or
  • jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes)
  • mild nausea, vomiting, bloating, stomach cramps;
  • freckles or darkening of facial skin

Ok so you would be really unlucky to get any or all of these side effects and I pray Kirst doesn’t suffer from any of them – particularly the loss of libido lol!   Seriously it is great that she starts on them next week and her own NHS doctor has been fantastic and she will get them free.

So happy or stressful times when she’s back on them – I’ll let you know lol !

NHS = No Health Service for Transexuals!

NHS in a mess for Transexual People

What a joke this has been!  The process is no doubt different in Scotland to England and here in Edinburgh the only place to be referred to is the Sandyford Organisation in Glasgow as the Edinburgh clinic was closed down.

Now Kirst is desperate to get FFS help (facial feminisation surgery) to make her look and feel morekirst womanly.  Personally I think she looks great and who knows what they may suggest she could have but ideally she would like some lip fillers as believes her top lip is too thin and lopsided!

What do you reckon?  I don’t think she needs this done and risk ending up looking like Jordan with a trout pout!

We have however visited a beauty salon and the girl who looked after us when we were buying a new wig had hers done and i must admit it looked good and natural.

The next thing she would like is permanent make up – eyebrows and eyelashes – now this one I kirst1understand as even though I’m a genetic woman I would love to have this done too and not have to faff about with mascara all the time but the cost is HUGE – from £400 for each!

Kirst does her eyes great anyway – far better than I do mine but if she could get this done on the NHS that would be another positive.

The main thing for a transexual going full-time is to have laser and electrolysis.  Kirst has hers kirst2done every 6 weeks but the last week she has been depressed and down as the hair has been coming through more than ever before.  The NHS don’t realise how this can make a transexual feel – it really stresses them out and depresses them and they don’t feel the woman they should.

So the NHS then – well after self-referring to the Sandyford in February and several emails later to complain and push the appointment and a referral letter from her GP she still has nothing!  However they told her that the Edinburgh clinic is now open!!!!  Is it???

Evidently they wrote a letter to her GP to advise of this but Kirst has spoken to her GP on many occasions and she has not mentioned this, neither has her private Doctor who used to run the Edinburgh clinic.  However, through a friend we have heard it is going to open but at the moment is only open on a Saturday and probably not doing a right lot!

This has to change!  There are so many girls out there crying out for this help and at various stages of their transition.  Kirst is further along than a lot who would first be referred and therefore needs the facial feminisation options now!

I feel a very strongly worded letter to the Director of the NHS and MP getting written very soon!

Supermarkets + Transexuals = Nightmare!!!!!

Kirst & Me Doing Our Weekly Shop

I am one of these people who don’t particularly like the supermarket shop at the best of times – fighting your way around the aisles and I was never an organised person always going without a list but could wizz around, knowing the layout and get what I needed.

However …….

A trip to the supermarket with Kirst is – now what words can I use – challenging, tiring and stressful!  Why I hear you ask!!

Well – and I know this is a trait of mine to get out the shop quicker – for instance – if you need one item from somewhere and one from another – to me it makes sense that one of you goes for one thing and one goes for the other to make it quicker.  Admittedly I tend to wander off and look at something else and then Kirst is searching the aisles for me which I guess isn’t the way to go about the shop lol.

I have now learnt – through several experiences – that any future shops we do we must have a list! Why – not like normal people who just write what they want but because Kirst doesn’t have to then speak!  I learnt today that although Kirst is full-time and her confidence has gone up, there are still times when her confidence is not there.

A transexual who has not yet had voice coaching and still has a manly voice doesn’t want people to hear that voice when they are dressed as a woman.  I hadn’t really appreciated this as much as I should have done and today it did.  So asking Kirst around the shop – do you fancy this – what do you want and not getting an answer or saying I can’t hear you lead us to snapping at each other because I didn’t understand how this makes her feel.  I just hadn’t thought!  So from now on until her voice coaching is complete we will definitely be taking a list!

The other aspect is how she walks slightly behind me or looks the other way when people are near.  Today was genuinely the first time in a supermarket that I have noticed a few people looking at her but like I keep saying – you don’t know what they’re looking at you for or what they are thinking.  It could just be they are admiring a beautiful girl!

I feel I let Kirst down today and previous supermarket trips – I still have a lot to learn to support her as much as I can.

However maybe in the short term the answer is home delivery lol.

Heaven or Hell with Transexual Kirst full-time???

Kirst’s First 3 Weeks Full-Time

So it’s been 3 weeks since Kirst went full-time as a transexual girly and it seems to have flown by.  We’ve been so busy I haven’t had much time to update blogs – well I should say I have been so busy with listening to Kirst lol that I haven’t had time.  Well you want to know what’s it been like – has it been heaven or hell??

Well I’m not often surprised by Kirst as she was quite predictable in her ways but she has definitely  shown a different side to her – relaxed, confident and happy!

Happy Kirst

Happy Kirst

I thought I would be up at the crack of dawn with her having to do her hair and that she’d be stressed each night finding what to wear the next day for work but she hasn’t!  Amazing!

Yes i’ve done her hair at weekends and the odd night but other than that its all been like a normal girl getting ready for work – I’m so proud of her!

She’s lucky that she can wear casual clothes to work but those who know our Kirst well knows she likes to wear dresses and skirts more than trousers.

I’m not sure how the guys and gals at her work think of her yet wearing skirts – it must be a little weird for them but our Kirst is confident and not a care in the world!

When she comes home she’s been relaxed and not stressed at all – a complete change from how she was as Steven when I felt I was walking on eggshells when he came home.  Yeh the OCD still hasn’t gone completely I still get nagged over things out of place lol and that I use too many bubble in the washing up bowl lol but hey guess I have to live with that.

The biggest change is that she’s happy and in all her pics she is smiling – its so nice to see her happy.  For those people who don’t understand gender dysphoria please believe me when I say that changing to be the person they should have been is a must and please support anyone in this position.

I’ve had a lot of people asking for advice – as has Kirst and we are more than willing to share our experience with others if it can help them too.  Oh we’ve also had some reporters contacting us wanting to do a piece on our story in the national newspapers to which we have said a firm NO!  Leading on from the death of the transexual teacher Lucy Meadows – there is no chance we would consider this.  Her death has definitely (I believe) had an impact on trans people being willing to share their stories – this is such a shame and I hope that other trans people are braver than us and willing to talk as the more we can get noticed – hopefully the government and other bodies will sit up and listen and make the changes that are so needed.

Anyway don’t want to go all political on you – my next blog will tell you some of the ridiculous hoops Kirst has had to go through the last few weeks and still going through with the NHS and private Dr situation to get her hormones and possible FFS (facial feminisation surgery) and also changing her name.

But for now for this blog – yep it’s heaven!

Transgender Health & Wellbeing

  • Transgender health and wellbeing

Trans people’s general health needs are the same as anyone else’s. They get colds, they need to see the dentist and they have long-term conditions, such as diabetes and arthritis. Being trans refers to a person’s gender identity. It’s not an illness.

Trans people and their families do, however, have certain additional health and wellbeing needs.

Feeling uncomfortable or confused about your identity can affect your mental wellbeing in many ways. Trans people often feel isolated, and find it difficult to talk to others about how they feel.

Trans people can face discrimination and harassment. This can affect their personal relationships, their ability to obtain housing and healthcare, their employment opportunities and their safety.

For more information on some of the issues that affect trans people and their families, see:

Gender dysphoria

Gender dysphoria is the medical term used to describe the condition of feeling uncomfortable about your gender. Gender Identity Disorder is the medical term used to describe transsexualism, i.e. the desire to live in the opposite gender to that assigned at birth. Find out more about gender dysphoria.

Gender reassignment (gender realignment or gender confirmation)

Many transsexual people receive gender reassignment treatment, which usually involves hormone therapy and surgery, to help them appear more masculine or feminine.

To receive this treatment on the NHS, you must first see your GP. Some GPs may then refer you directly to a gender specialist or a gender clinic. In other areas, you’ll initially be referred to the local mental health team. Your GP can take the lead role in coordinating different therapies for you.

For more information on how transsexual people can get medical care on the NHS, see NHS funding processes and waiting times. This NHS publication, available as a PDF, includes information about your rights, waiting times, the different ways of getting care, what the NHS will pay for, and how to combine private and NHS-funded treatment.

Further information on hormone therapy, including the benefits, risks and side effects, can be found in an NHS publication, A guide to hormone therapy for trans people.

Physical excercise prevents you becoming gay, claims UK councillor candidate

John Sullivan, a UKIP party candidate, up for election next week, has made a series of anti-gay Facebook comments, including congratulating Russia for banning gay Pride, and comparing gays to termites

 | BY DAN LITTAUER

John Sullivan, a UKIP party candidate, up for election next week, has made a series of anti-gay Facebook comments, including congradulating Russia for banning gay Pride, and comparing gays to termites

John Sullivan, a UK councillor candidate congratulated Russia on banning gay Pride marches and claimed regular exercise in schools can prevent homosexuality.

In a series of Facebook posts, Sullivan, who is a member of the United Kingdom Independence Party (UKIP) likened gay activists to termites and stated that feminism is evil and being gay is even worse.

Sullivan is standing for local elections on 2 May, to win a seat as a councillor for the Forest of Dean area in Gloucestershire’s County Council, in western England, UK.

In a series of posts on the far right anti-gay Traditional Britain Group Facebook group Sullivan expressed anti-gay views, revealed Colin Cortbus, an anti-extremist campaigner and a Gay Star News reader.

In one post Sullivan suggested regular physical exercise prevents children from becoming gay.

He recommended Victorian style regular physical exercise be reinstated in schools as it apparently causes releases of tension which prevents homosexuality.

Gay Star News readers thought Sullivan’s ideas were hilariously bad: ‘Has he never seen a gaggle of gym-bunnies?’, read one comment.

One reader stated: ‘Regular exercise made me even gayer!!’

‘Not in my gym…’, said another.

Sullivan also congratulated Russia for banning gay Pride and saying: ‘Well done the Russians’.

Reacting to Sullivan’s recommendations, Nikolay Alexeyev, co-founder of Moscow Pride and Gay Russia, told GSN: ‘Unfortunately Sullivan was born in the wrong country (and century).

‘I’d advise him to ask Putin for a Russian citizenship, he would make an excellent member of United Russia and his views on promoting hatred would be far better received.

‘Putin would very likely personally take a liking to him and congratulate him on his views.’

Sullivan also went on to call gay marriage supporters ‘termites’ mockingly reacting to an article on Conservative party members supporting marriage equality.

His antagonism doesn’t stop there, he also claimed feminism is evil, suggesting that homosexuality is even worse (saying ‘it doesn’t go there’).

When it comes to education, Sullivan has some novel suggestions: the best way to rear children is to handle them in a similar way to dogs, who learn that with obedience comes trust.

Sullivan recommended this method (which he said he tried and tested on his own children) be adopted by UK educational establishments.

Gay Star News contacted UKIP’s Forest of Dean and West Gloucestershire Branch for comments but has received none to the date of the article’s publication.

UKIP has recently come under fire for some of its members expressing anti-gay views

Nigel Farage, UKIP’s leader, called upon Conservative party members to defect to his party over the government’s pro gay marriage stance.

While, Olly Neville, the former chairman of UKIP’s Young Independent wing, was recently fired from his position for backing marriage equality.

Winston McKenzie, a UKIP unsuccessful MP candidate previously said gay adoption is like throwing kids to the ‘dogs’.

Former UKIP chair, Dr Julia Gasper, was forced to resign when said gays are more likely to abuse children, branding LGBT rights activists as a ‘lunatics’ and claimed some gays prefer sex with animals.

Cortbus, who exposed Gasper and led to her eventual resignation, told GSN: ‘party-members and candidates like Sullivan evidence the dangers of UKIP’s politics’.

My year with a Transexual

My First Year with Kirst

kirst's first day at work

Kirst’s first day at work

Well can’t believe it myself but it’s now been over a year that Kirst and I have been living together.  Did I think a year ago I would be living with a transexual – no way of course I didn’t – never met or spoke to one in my life before Kirst!  But here we are – a year in – and oh what a year!  I can only describe the year as like being a rollercoaster whilst taking speed!  Not that I’ve ever taken speed lol !

So what have I learnt after my first year of living with a transexual – well here’s just some advice and some of my learnings I can pass on:

  • Never date a transexual with OCD lol!
  • Always agree they are right even when they’re not!
  • Find someone else for you to talk to – they’re only interested in themselves lol!
  • Allow hours and hours to get ready for a night out!
  • Hide your make-up, stockings, nail varnish etc lol!
  • Don’t use the words tranny, freak or cock in a frock – oops!
  • Don’t let anyone see you laughing or smirking at some of the outfits they wear – some go way over the top – no names mentioned lol!
  • Don’t try and wear as high heeled shoes as them – they are much better walking in them than you and you won’t end up with many bruises and cut knees and legs like I have!
  • Remember you are there to be at their beck and call and not the other way around lol!
  • Make them go on a hair styling course so you don’t have to do it for them!
  • Oh and did I say – NEVER date a transexual with OCD!!!

Ok so these may be some amusing things I’ve encountered but more seriously:

Kirst finally dresses casual

Kirst finally dresses casual

  • Treat them with the respect they deserve – you have no idea how brave they are!
  • Talk to them!  Their stories are really interesting and inspiring!
  • Don’t assume anything by just looking at them and the way they may dress – they are people with feelings!
  • Go on a night out with them – you won’t have a better night out with anyone else!
  • Help anyone who needs it – sometimes they can’t see the way forward and someone outside can.
  • Appreciate the enormous struggles transexuals go through with the NHS or privately to get treatment and support – it is a mind field and one that needs changing fast!
  • Read up about gender dysphoria – a true transexual (i.e. not someone who does it for a thrill) has lived with the feelings for most of their life and unfortunately many have committed suicide as the help was not there.
  • Don’t expect to ever fully understand – if you’re not in their head you cannot understand.
  • Appreciate they are all different, like us, some are quiet, some loud, some realistic and some not.
  • Don’t assume they all want ‘THE operation’!  It’s not about that!  And certainly don’t ask them!
Smiley Kirst

Smiley Kirst

What I can say is that there have been lots of ups and downs – on both sides in the last year but Kirst is finally full-time and she never thought that would be the case a year ago!

Being able to help her and see the way forward has been an amazing thing for me and honoured to help her and see the transition in all its stages.

It’s not finished yet by a long way – there are still things like electrolysis and hormones which will probably have to be taken all her life but she is so much happier now.

The biggest difference in the last year has been her teeth and without a doubt has given her so much more confidence.  The pics above are recent and to see her smile is fantastic.  The pics below show Kirst before her teeth were done and you’ll see she never smiled – that pout has gone forever lol!!!  Well I doubt it but I can hope lol!

Well my first year has been interesting, stressful, funny and a learning curve – but it’s mostly been rewarding.  I look forward to writing on my 2nd year with a transexual.

Transexual Kirsty and her work

Kirsty’s Work Journey

A lot of you know that Kirst works in IT (yep the words boring, nerd and geek come to mind lol) and for a very large global company at their UK head office in Edinburgh.

The team she works in within IT is actually quite small but the number of staff in the building is around 400.  Kirsty has to deal with the users in the Company but also external suppliers and of course they all needed to know that Steven was going to be no more and replaced with transexual Kirsty.

I mentioned in one of my other blogs how I told Kirst’s boss and he has led the helm to involve HR and plan for Kirsty’s first day and beyond when she first goes in.  Now companies have to follow the legal rights and rules around transgender people but I have to say they have been brilliant!  It didn’t feel as though they were just following procedure but genuinely concerned for how it was going to work for Kirst and taking her views into account.

So much so that I went to the meeting with her boss and HR when first planning out the project plan (and boy it was a big plan) to start the process of what needed doing within the Company.  The plan was huge – if you think about what needs doing incuding: company handbook updates, change of record details on all systems and payroll, telling the suppliers and staff, speaking to the women re Kirsty now going to use the female toilets and just so much more.

Kirst wanted me involved and I was more than happy to help with that process – how many companies would let their staff members partner contribute?  Not many I think!  They have really implemented the communications in a very considerate way to both Kirst and the staff and we are pleased that – so far – there has been no detrimental issues to deal with.  Oh I’m sure there may be people there who don’t agree or understand but as long as they keep their opinions away from Kirst and if they have real issues speak to her boss or HR.  Somehow I doubt that is going to be the case having met so many and heard what people are saying – believing she is so brave and wanting to support her.

So Tuesday 16th April next week is the day!  Work are ready but is Kirst lol????  Well I’m sure when she’s back tonight from Budapest tomorrow will be a day of organising outfits, make-up and whatever else she starts panicking about lol. I’m glad I’ll be here to support her Monday and no doubt be the dogsbody running around after her for whatever she needs.

She has already had a small trying on session for work clothes.  Her work allow them to wear casual clothes including jeans so that makes it easier to just think about tops and shoes mainly.  However, you know our Kirst – she loves dresses and skirts so I’m sure they’ll creep in soon lol.  Here are some of the pics of her potential work outfits:

Oh that’s my dress!             and my dress again!                    Oh and that’s my top lol !

Although Kirst is naturally nervous, apprehensive and excited all at once, I know she’ll be absolutely fine!  She now has the confidence she didn’t used to have, knows what she wants and looks fantastic!  Take a look below at the difference in not only the hair and teeth but she has learnt to tone her make-up down as well for work and Kirst – you look like a real girl!
